Ards Cycling Club is delighted with the response from club members from when the First Aid initiative was initially launched back in November with Conn’s introductory session. Of the 22 club members who attended this session, 12 went on to receive their formal qualification through North Down Training in Newtownards this month. We are pleased to report that a 100% pass rate was achieved and all are now qualified emergency First Aiders.
We would like to offer thanks to Ards CC committee for recognising the value of first aid in cycling and demonstrating this by fully funding the training. Thanks also go to Aimee Gourley for organising both courses to suit the availability of the participants and negotiating a highly competitive rate with the training provider.
But most of all, we give a huge thank you and congratulations to the 12 club members who made the commitment to attend training, study at home and undergo practical assessment and examination in order to successfully complete the course. It was no mean feat!!
The hope was that we would never need our first aiders to make use of their training, but we have already had one casualty well tended to by Desie following his training. Fingers crossed any future accidents or incidents are so easily treated. Given the number of newly qualified first aiders and our existing healthcare professionals in the club, we should have no difficulty assisting any casualties on our club runs, TTs, road races, sportives, youth events and any other club activities.
Here’s to a safe and successful 2017 season!!
