Johnny Webb (North Down) won tonight’s final 5 mile time trial on the Donaghadee Road, beating the fast improving Niall Brown by just one second. Ricky Topping, riding his standard road bike in preparation for next week’s hill climb, lost out aerodynamically in the rising head wind from the turn to take third place.
Niall had a huge improvement of 83 seconds on his previous personal best to win the event on handicap, but it is Dean Bradley who wins the 5 mile time trial handicap trophy, following his handicap win in the first 5 mile time trial and his third place this evening.
Thanks as always to the time keepers, pusher off and marshals. There’s just one more club race left this season – the highly prestigious Bradshaw’s Brae hill climb next Tuesday night at 6.30pm. There have been some great battles on this climb over the years – it was even used as a time trial in the Tour of the North stage race back in the ’90s – so why not give it a go? It’s only 1 mile 🙂
