The Club has recently been approached by SPORTS (Suicide Prevention Offering Recovery Through Sport), to learn more about how to look out for the mental health of its members. On this subject, there are two free courses in early 2020, provided by Ards and North Down Borough Council, to which members have been invited to attend:
- SafeTalk – Mental Health Awareness Training for Sports Leaders, on Wednesday 29th January. The course is for those who would like to learn how to identify and better help those with mental health needs in their sports club.
- A wide-ranging workshop on Wednesday 12th February about the growing mental health initiative called SPORTS.
The courses take place from 6.30pm to 9.30pm at Londonderry Park, and refreshments are provided. Please pre-book your place via https://www.leisureardsandnorthdown.com/sports-development/sports-education-courses
A small sub-committee within the Club has recently been formed to review our approach to mental health issues, although further assistance and input from members would be greatly appreciated. If anyone would like to be involved, please contact either one of the current sub-committee members, Gideon Burrows and Heather Hamilton, or Deirdre Murray.
