Summer returned for this evening’s 5 mile time trial on the Donaghadee Road, with warm, sunny and calm conditions. Alan Patterson (Ards CC) capitalised on his recent great form to win by more than half a minute, and beat his previous personal best by almost three minutes. Stuart Millar (Ards CC), riding his first club time trial, showed a strong turn of speed with 11:29 – good enough for third place.

A couple of 5 mile time trials were cancelled at the start of the season, so there were only two counting events for the 5 mile Handicap Cup this year. The winner was Dean Bradley, who improved in both events to just edge out Alan Patterson and Barry Mitchell.

Thanks as always to the time keepers, pusher off and turn stewards – much appreciated on a busy evening. Next week is the final club race of the year – the Bradshaw’s Brae hill climb. Last year Andrew Hedley beat Peter McLean by one second. With Andrew side-lined tonight with a jammed chain, Peter taking his turn at marshalling, and Alan and Stuart showing a real turn of speed, it promises to be a great finale. Don’t miss it!
