The club were delighted to learn that Karl Rocket was one of 6 young cyclists to be awarded a Mary Peters Trust Award last week.
Mary Peters has a long association with cycling, starting in the 1960s and 1970s when she was on Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games teams with the likes of Dave Kane and Joe Smyth. She won her first Commonwealth medal in Kingston Jamaica in 1996 (a silver in the shot) at the same Games where Dave Kane took 5th in the road race, and she’s been very supportive of cycling ever since.
Terry will undoubtedly appreciate the financial help, but this recognition of his potential will also be a big psychological boost for Karl. Well done!
And in other news – don’t forget the club AGM at 7pm this Wednesday (30/11) at Londonderry Park. This is your chance to find out how the club is doing, and to help shape our plans for next year. You can read a report from last year’s AGM here. See you there.
