Service in S. Clarke & Sons Funeral Church, Newtownards on Friday 21st April 2023 at 12noon. Funeral afterwards to Movilla Cemetery.
The club was saddened to hear of the passing of Rab Dunn at the weekend.
Rab was a top cricketer, but when his son Robbie took up cycling in 1979 Rab joined Ards Cycling Club and soon became secretary. Working closely with chairman Mike McConaghy and treasurer Ron Martin, they established Ards CC as one of the top clubs in the North. Rab put in place many of the core structures that are still central to our club 40 years later, from the club constitution, the club calendar and marshals rota, and the medals scheme, to the Christmas 10.
Rab also took to the bike, completing century rides round Lough Neagh with the “Last of the Summer Wine Group.
Rab’s son Robbie excelled too, becoming a multiple Irish junior 25 mile time trial champion in 1982 and 1983. Robbie was tragically killed while out training in November 1985, and Rab understandably stepped back from the cycling club.
The club owes a huge debt of thanks to Rab for putting us on such a sound footing all those years ago. His legacy lives on, and is hugely appreciated.
We extend our sympathy to Rab’s wife Silvia, his daughters Elizabeth and Julie and the wider family circle.
